From the top! Featuring our latest safari news stories and updates! Take a look at some of the places, people and adventures we’re loving right now.
At this time of year, we’re celebrating family, holidays and changes of season. So no better time than now to think about a spontaneous adventure in Africa! Our top suggestion is Tanzania, because this is the time of year that the Great Wildebeest Migration moves from the Maasai Mara into the northern Serengeti, when the herds can feast on fresh grass and birth their young. But there’s also predators galore with such profusion of animals and, against a backdrop of dramatic skies and diverse landscapes, wide open savannah plains dotted with myriad beasts, it’s also a photographer’s dream.

And never fear, we’ve plenty more ideas, if you have something else in mind!

A bucket list experience for wildlife enthusiasts, the Great Wildebeest Migration is the ever-moving, clockwise-circling migration of over a million animals across the Serengeti-Mara ecosystem. In search of grazing and water, thousands of animals are taken by predators and thousands are born along the way. The circle of life continues.

Right now, between the months of December and March, after the “long” rains, the Great Wildebeest Migration kicks off; enormous herds of wildebeest, zebra and other travelling companions move into the vast wilderness of the northern Serengeti to graze on the fresh grasses and to birth their young.

From horizon to horizon, as far as the eye can see, the plains are dotted with wildebeest and zebra, and all the predators they attract. It’s simply spectacular.

At this time of year, the “Green Season”, when afternoon thunderstorms clear the air, there are less tourists and vehicles and you can enjoy front row seats to one of nature’s most amazing phenomenons – and do it all at low season rates.

We have great recommendations for extraordinary camps that are perfectly placed to witness this incredible spectacle and more.

From here, you may also like to add the Ngorongoro Crater to your bucket list, and how about topping off all that excitement with a few days at a tranquil beach gem to visit one of the largest remaining populations of wild chimpanzees in the world?
