JOHN STEVENS

John is a renowned African safari guide and is privileged to work in more than eight countries on the continent. His experience as Warden in two of Zimbabwe’s most significant game reserves, namely Matusadona and Mana Pools National Parks, setting up and running his own mobile camps and a permanent one on the Zambezi River, not to mention his many years of exceptional private guiding in Zimbabwe and beyond, means that John has gained a reputation as an incomparable and highly professional guide. Bushcraft and knowledge like no other, an enthusiasm that knows no bounds, and passion for the bush and animals that is infectious…

“We act as though comfort and luxury were the chief requirements of life, when all that we need to make us really happy is something to be enthusiastic about” Charles Kingsley (Writer 18119 – 1875)

 NICCI STEVENS

Nicci and John are the perfect husband-and-wife team and have been working together for more than 30 years, bringing hundreds of happy clients to experience Africa in the most unique, unforgettable ways.

Nicci designs and arranges each safari on an exclusive basis, drawing on her knowledge and experience, plus many lively discussions with John, to come up with the perfect trip for each client. Having visited the countries and camps/lodges she recommends, or working closely with those country’s guides and camp managers, Nicci is able to give first-hand information and come up with itineraries that reflect the value of this deep understanding and insight. Each itinerary is organised and arranged to the last detail in an effort to ensure smooth, seamless travel – and an experience that is unforgettable for all the right reasons!

 SARAH STEVENS HARRUP

Sarah is John and Nicci’s middle daughter. Although she works in the office as part of the Guided Safaris Africa team, Sarah also runs her own safari business with husband, Milo and in conjunction with Robin Pope Safaris – John’s Camp, a luxury mobile tented camp in the Zambezi, which was set up a few years ago and is widely recognised as the perfect example of a classically authentic camp. Sarah has grown up with adventure and hospitality, but she also has a good head for figures and a naturally organised brain – much needed when finalising safaris and putting together the costs, liaising with clients and suppliers, keeping tabs on things and making sure everything is on track!

 LAURA TAYLOR

Laura has a marketing and advertising background and worked with Nicci for ten years as a freelancer before joining the team permanently six years ago and is now involved on the sales side, too. Laura loves to travel (apart from the necessary bumpy stints on light aircraft), is passionate about wildlife and conservation issues, enjoys communicating and putting together itineraries for clients, inspired and guided, of course, by John’s experiences and Nicci’s kind and wise counsel!

Mark Twain

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”

“To my mind, the greatest reward and luxury of travel is to be able to experience everyday things as if for the first time, to be in a position in which almost nothing is so familiar it is taken for granted.”

“Even today, to visit Africa is a feast for the senses. The bush literally brings one’s faculties to life, as you learn to see better, to smell for the first time, to be silent and to listen.”
