Thank you from John Stevens

A giant-sized thank you to
my big-hearted friends!

I woke up this morning in the Chyulu Hills of south-eastern Kenya, a remote and beautiful wilderness between Tsavo East and Amboseli National Parks, presided over by the breathtaking Mount Kilimanjaro… a perfectly secluded spot for an old-time safari hand like me. It is here that my dear friend, Richard Bonham, is most at home and Ol Donyo is his and wife, Tara’s, extraordinary creation. Here, where we are so fortunate to find ourselves, is one of my favourite wildlife retreats in Kenya – and Nicci and I, with our guests, could not be further removed from the busy, sensory-rich streets of New York City.

I can’t believe it was just a few days ago when we were there (and before that in North Carolina, Naples and Mexico City), fundraising and raising awareness, too, for Zambezi Elephant Fund (ZEF), at a few select events hosted by our kind friends in safari and conservation. As many of you will know, the main event was the 10km Saving The Elephants Run/Walk (ZEF was sole beneficiary for the second year running), held in Central Park on Saturday, November 16th. Over 500 people registered and through the race funds and fundraising, ZEF was able to raise almost $170,000 that will go directly towards its efforts protecting elephants on the ground in Zimbabwe.

With this small news update, I want to thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for your incredible support! You know who you are. Your kindness and generosity have gone further than you think. For starters, they go a long way to meeting our budget target for 2020. But your kindness also extends to the elephants, of course, who will always need our protection. It reaches the hard-working teams on the ground, the rangers, the neighbouring communities and schools – and will even reflect in ZEF’s new sustainable habitat conservation goals, all exciting developments on the very near horizon.

So watch this space! And visit us in the unique Zambezi Valley of Zimbabwe. Share this newsletter and spread the word, if you can, because, together, we really are making a difference for our global heritage! If you’d like to know more, please get in touch with me or write to ZEF.

Thank you. Tatenda. Siyabonga.

With love and thanks,
John and Nicci
