Guides
Luwi River – this part of your safari is led by veteran guide Shadreck Nkhoma and Batwell Mvula, one of the Luangwa’s most experienced scouts.
Zambezi River – this part of your safari is guided by George van Wyk.
George was born in Zimbabwe in 1967 and developed an abiding passion for all things wild at a very young age. After school he worked in the cattle ranching industry for four years, and then began his career as a professional guide in 1989. George is endlessly fascinated with the bush and everything in it, and his enthusiasm for sharing his knowledge with his guests, coupled with “old school” standards of safety and professionalism, make for a truly memorable safari experience.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1 – 22nd July 2012
Arrive at Lusaka and fly to Mfuwe where you will be met and driven to Luwi Camp.
Settle in to camp and depending on your time of arrival set out on foot to explore the local area, spend time at the nearby croc and hippo filled lagoon and get your bearings.
Day 2 and 3 – 23rd and 24th July
Leave camp before the sun rises, taking a picnic breakfast and lunch with you and head up stream deep into really wild country towards the foothills of the Muchinga Escarpment into the miombo woodland. You can then start to walk downstream of the Luwi and just see how far you get! Have brunch in the shade of a tree overlooking one of the many waterholes in the “back country” then head back towards Luwi in time for a sundowner at the lagoon and dinner in camp.
Day 4 – 25th July 2012
Leave camp early on foot and start downstream towards Nsolo Camp, the river widens in this section and the Luwi’s white sands carve a dynamic route through open grazing lawns, palm and trichelia groves, thicket and game rich “dambos” for which the Luangwa Valley is so well known.
Arrive at Nsolo in time for brunch to find your luggage waiting for you in your room. Have a rest and soak up the magical atmosphere of this, one of the oldest bush camps in the Luangwa Valley.
Day 5 – 26th July 2012
Spend the day exploring the Nsolo area.
Day 6 – 27th July 2012
For the most adventurous of spirits… leave Nsolo and head downstream towards Kakuli. Find a spot to set up your bedroll and mossie net, build the camp fire and make preparations for your “Return to the Wild” sleep out night.
Day 7 – 28th July 2012
Today, you meander with the Luwi and arrive with the river at the confluence of the Luangwa and Kakuli Camp. Named after Norman Carr who was affectionately named Kakuli – an old buffalo bull, this camp has sweeping and majestic views over the Luangwa and is the perfect place from which to explore the riverine area both on foot and by game viewing vehicle.
Day 8 – 29th July 2012
Spend your final day on an all day drive way upstream, exploring on foot or just relaxing in camp and making the most of the spectacular views over the hippo filled Luangwa River.
Days 9 - 12 – 30th July to 2nd August 2012
Fly from Lusaka to Harare, Zimbabwe, light aircraft transfer to Mana Pools in the Zambezi Valley.
Short road transfer from airstrip to Mana Pools Safari Company tented camp on the banks of the Zambezi River. Your hosts, Milo and Sarah Harrup, will ensure your every comfort is catered for.
Early morning tea and coffee is usually followed by a walk or game drive as the sun comes up, then a hearty breakfast in the bush or back at camp. Track rhino or wild dogs, see Mana’s famous dancing elephants or just sit and watch the world go by from your tent veranda.
Lunch is set up in camp or will be a welcome sight in the bush at the end of a long morning walk!
Enjoy afternoon siestas, followed by another walk or drive, fishing, birding or a spa treatment. Refresh yourself in the portable camp pool with a sundowner in your hand and a view across the river. Then enjoy a 3-course dinner al fresco, followed by tales and highlights of the day chat around the campfire.
Day 13 – 3rd August 2012
Morning transfer from Mana to Charles Prince Airport, Harare. Quick transfer to Harare International Airport for your return journey home.
Alternatively, you can fly from Mana Pools to Victoria Falls Airport, en route to O.R. Tambo International Airport, Johannesburg, for your international flight home.
Should you wish to spend a night or two in Victoria Falls en route, this can easily be arranged.
